Titus Crown is the first black sheriff in Charon County, Virginia.  

A beloved school teacher is killed by a former student.  It's soon revealed that the school teacher enjoyed kidnapping, torturing, assaulting, and murdering black children.  Video evidence on his phone shows an accomplice.   Titus sets out to find out who that is.  


Notes while listening

7%: Absolutely excellent thus far.  However, my spidey senses tell me there's going to be some possible child abuse in the explanation of what's going on, and I am soooooo not up for that.  Plus, it's set in a very racist South.  Given the political climate it's just too close to the bone at the moment.  I doubt I'll get through the whole book...but that shouldn't deter you if those things don't mess with your head like mine. It really is absolutely excellent written.  


17%: Ah. Yes.  What I feared has turned up, giving me chills.  I'm forwarding to the last 30 minutes to catch the end.  I feel sad, as it really is an excellent book...but I just can't handle it.  

As a by-the-by, the audiobook is absolutely excellent.  Adam Lazzarre-White is absolutely phenomenal.  It was a pleasure to listen to him. 


I did indeed ffwd to the last 30 minutes.  There were some things going on there that I didn't understand as I'd skipped 75% of the book.  However, I picked up on it pretty fast.  The ending was satisfying.  However, I was distressed to realize Titus was out of there.  Who can blame him though?  I want to be out of here too,  tbh.  


One of the best narrators I've ever heard.  Absolutely excellent.  I will be keeping my eye out for other books narrated by Lazzarre-White.  Very well written book.  I just couldn't handle the subject matter.  Too disturbing for me.  

Changing habits in an appalling political climate

I'm appalled at the election of a narcissistic fascist wannabe dictator, rapist, and traitor.  I believe Trump's term will set in motion the destruction of the American Republic just like Caesar's actions set in motion the destruction of the Roman Republic decades later.  Rome continued as an entity, but it was never a Republic again.  

I cannot, in good conscience, support those who support a rapist dictator.  Thus, I am, as much as I possibly can, avoiding giving money to those who gave money to Trump.  

I've started shopping at Target rather than Walmart. 

I've started looking for other places to purchase things rather than Amazon.  Amazon was so easy, and I got into the the habit of getting whatever I needed from there.  I have avoided it since I learned Bezos gave Trump $10 million.  TEN. MILLION. DOLLARS.  Holy cow Lex, wth?

I have been using Goodreads for some time.  However, Goodreads is owned by Amazon.  So I moved all my info to Storygraph and deleted my account.  

Unfortunately, it turns out I really hate StoryGraph.  I miss the interactive community element of Goodreads.  I miss discussing books with friends.  That's just not available on Storygraph.  Plus, it's difficult to find where on earth all my notes and reviews are.  Most disappointing.  

Aaaaaanyway.  So I've decided to move here to chaunter on about books.  It also doesn't have the interactive element as no-one reads this blog, but it's a whole lot less confusing than StoryGraph.  We'll see how that goes.
